Ozone is a naturally occurring gas that forms a layer mostly in the upper atmosphere, or stratosphere, 15–30 km above the earth’s surface. Ozone protects life on earth by absorbing ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
Any significant change to this layer can have far-reaching consequences for human health.
The past 60 years have seen some depletion of the ozone layer, and this is allowing more UVA and UVB rays to reach the earth’s surface.
